About the forum

On behalf of the Central Coastal Board I welcome you to Connecting Coastal Champions.

Victoria’s coast and marine environment is highly valued by our community. But it is facing significant pressures including increasing population, and climate change, particularly in the central region, which is home to around two thirds of Victoria’s population.

To ensure a positive future for Victoria’s coast, coastal champions and decision makers need to be forward thinking, connected and be applying successful and adaptive practices.

We welcome you, as a coastal champion, and hope you learn, connect, enjoy and celebrate with your colleagues, the leading thinking and inspirational actions across our marine coastal community.

Chair, Central Coastal Board

Parks Victoria is the statutory authority of the Victorian Government that manages Victoria’s national parks, state parks and other land and waterways of environmental or cultural significance. The area managed by Parks Victoria covers almost a fifth of the State and 70% of Victoria’s coastline and includes 13 marine national parks and 11 marine sanctuaries.

Attracting over 106 million visits each year, visitation to Victoria’s parks contributes around a billion dollars annually to the Victorian economy. Around half of all visits to parks are visits to the 211 piers and jetties managed by Parks Victoria around the bays.
